Dave says about his book:
You should do a book they said. Finally, after 40 years of encouragement, good intentions, and false starts, my first book has been published.
It tells how a young boy from Plymouth got drawn into Fifty bashing and railway photography, told using railway enthusiast language. A word of warning: This is not a dry historical document about these locos. It light heartedly focusses on "the joined up railway"! that existed after the class was refurbished; it's variety, infrastructure and working practices. The environment in which we went bashing (being hauled by our favourite locos). The Large Logo livery is king in this title , with a nod towards what went before, and after; with the arrival of the bean counters. In reality the (hopefully interesting) storylines are just an excuse to showcase pictures I took over the years. A visual record of "moves" made in pursuit of mileage or rare track with 50s.
There are photos from far flung parts of the country, on tours and unusual workings, including the Track test Train. Along with visual records of days spent trudging round the countryside, standing in fields in all weathers, waiting for something to turn up. The "rules" of railway photography (three quarter views in bright sunshine), may have been studiously ignored and there's some arty stuff too..
Proceeds from the sale of ‘Fifty Memories’ will go towards the continued upkeep of the Class 50s in the care of the Class 50 Alliance Ltd. which is in turn supported by The Fifty Fund.

Reviews
Stunning photos, capturing 50s across the well trodden Network, and the some more obscure places, the author captures with amusing and sometimes delusional anecdotes that anyone who "followed" 50s can relate to. As well as a good read, all profits go towards the continued upkeep of these fine machines for us to enjoy for many years to come.
